To The Beautiful Black Girl …
To the beautiful black girl that with a high booty and long legs
I see you
To the beautiful black girl with no booty and big boobs
I see you
To the beautiful black girl that’s really ‘skinny’
I see you
To the beautiful black girl that’s chubby
I see you
To the beautiful black girl with ‘bad’ feet
I see you
To the beautiful black girl with ‘good’ feet
I see you
To the beautiful black girl that was told she would never make it
I see you
To the beautiful black girl that doesn’t look like everyone else
I see you
To the beautiful black girl that doesn’t see herself on stage
I see you
To the beautiful black girl that learned to dance in her room
I see you
To the beautiful black girl that didn’t have the money for ‘proper’ dance lessons
I see you
To the beautiful black girl with no place to go
I see you
To the beautiful black girl dancing from ‘experience’
I see you
To the beautiful black girl dancing from the heart
I see you
To the beautiful black girl that had no choice in being black
I see you
To the beautiful black girl pushing through adversity
I see you
To you, you beautiful black girl
I see you
There was no way I was going to let BLACK HISTORY MONTH go by without saying anything. I do not care if my blackness intimidates, bothers, angers, or upsets you. I AM A BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMAN and I do not need you to see me, because I SEE ME. I see my worth, I understand my presence, and I LOVE ME, WHOLLY AND UNAPOLOGETICALLY. I will not let the walls of society break me or be held back by ‘standard.’
And while, this wasn’t when I intended to post my tribute to Black History Month, the universe has a funny way of giving inspiration. So here are some pictures of that beautiful black girl.
